With the 4th of July weekend, Bridget and I decided to extend our long weekend and relax on California’s Central Coast.

The coastline’s scenery will provoke your deep thoughts as you fixate upon the waves crashing along the rocky coast. A view that only the central coast can offer.  Quite the site to see.

We stayed at the Colton Inn within the Monterey area. While we were there, we were able to check out hammerhead sharks at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, walk through a touristy but pleasant Cannery Row, and drive through Big Sur to grab some shots of the old bridges, the rocky coastlines, and the unique beach waterfall. We also went into Pebble Beach for the 17 mile drive, which I somehow shortened by two miles.

My favorite part was our run through Point Lobos State Park. We woke up early to avoid the heat (despite our realization it was the coldest day), and we grabbed a path along the coastline. During our four mile jog through the park, I saw two otters backstroking in the cove. I waved Bridget over, trying not to scare  them…

I pointed to where they were playing, and I suddenly hear a squeal next to me. “Oh my god. They are so cute! Look at them!” I looked at Bridget to try to prompt her to be quiet, but she kept going on. “They’re adorable. Look how that one is grasping the other.”And suddenly the otters skirted away. But, a cool sight indeed.

We also were able to see seals and a bird hunting a small crab. It was a very cool run. But now that I’ve been able to see some of our pictures, I’m ready to go back.

Monterey was a great time to spend a weekend with good company.
