Recently I signed up Bridget and me for golf lessons at Wildcreek. I was tired of always beating Bridget in miniature golf, so I figured this might level the playing field. City of Sparks offers a pretty sweet deal for six lessons for less than $100, so I figured we could try it.

Our instructor, Dennis, was really a fun guy to get lessons from. He was patient with our group, and he seemed to really have a passion for the game. Each Thursday we would have our lesson, which started in April.

I still have a baseball swing, and the ball would always hook to the right when I took a full swing. Soon I was able to shorten my swing without having to lose any power, and the ball goes straight sometimes!!!

The weather only seemed to cooperate twice. And if you’ve ever seen an Eskimo golf, you can envision what Bridget looked like swinging a golf club. She was very much bundled up to fight the cold weather. The crazy Reno weather we’ve been having also cancelled one of our lessons which we made up the next week – chipping and putting.

Our final lesson was playing a full round of nine holes on the golf course. It was supposed to be a scramble of three teams. Bridget and I were on the same “team”, but we became too stubborn to do this and started to shoot our own ball each time.

We didn’t finish the full nine since we had to give up our clubs, but in the six holes that we shot, I think I created a golf shark in Bridget. Her consistent straight, 40 foot shot ahead beats my long drive in the pond… on the other course… to the right.
