fly-into-amsterdam

We made it! We survived our 15 our flight with Nixon without obstacle.

Before we even made it to airport, I had a full week of travel:

  • Monday started in Newport Beach to meet with a client.
  • Tuesday I was in Santa Monica for a pitch.
  • Tuesday night I  flew into San Francisco for another client meeting.  (I was able to sneak a 6 mile run in around the Embarcadero. Then Michael and I went to the Padres/San Francisco game.)
Chad and I then went to see FICO and BrightEdge, which we then flew home late Wednesday.
  • Thursday, I had the GATE presentation at UNR back in Reno. And Friday was reserved for finalizing travel to leave Saturday.

It was a busy way to start travels. To add to this, poor Chris came down with the flu on Wednesday night. (Nixon had the bug last Friday that lasted over the week.) Ron and her then built out the scenario that they may not be able to travel with us because of the illness. Luckily Bridget talked her to go into urgent care. They gave her some medication and put some IVs in her to flush her out. That may have been the difference since she was able to go… with a mixture of courage and luck.

We then jumped on our flight, not knowing what Nixon had in store. And luckily he was great.  There was so much to see and do. He cried a few times, we also fed him bananas to help slow his system down. But he was an absolute rock star angel.

We flew into Amsterdam where Jason picked us up in his converted fire truck. He had put two additional seats in his van for this trip. We then had not time to spare and began to drive down to Bruges, Belgium.

We stayed in an AirBnB which has been amazing place. It’s a three story house within the main city. The house is a mix of ancient and modern. It’s really cool: the old wood floors, the giant wood beams, the over-sized fireplaces…

As for the city, it’s also quite amazing. Canals filled with boats and paddle boards, cobbled stone streets, Belgian waffles, Belgian beer, and small peculiar ally ways.

Ron, Jason, and I explored a bit of the square and grabbed a beer and a chocolate waffle. But, we didn’t last long. It had been quite a long trip. So, we reserved the next day for real exploring.
